Last week Thursday, my friend and amazing travel buddy, E’Lisa, and I traveled to Santa Barbara, CA for the Photo Field Trip to a place called El Capitan Canyon. Many photographers I have followed with great admiration were there teaching to around 400 other creatives. I was hoping for an adventure and to feel inspired and this trip delivered!

E’Lisa and I arrived a day early in Santa Barbara to explore a bit before checking in. We enjoyed the hour of sunshine and walked by the beach and on Stearns Wharf. It was a great day despite all the rain.

I learned so much in the 4 days we stayed at El Capitan. It felt great to be surrounded by other photographers who understand this strange photography world. One I didn’t know existed two and a half years ago, before I started in photography. I met some amazing people and got incredibly close to my roommates in such a short period of time. Our roommates are the adorable and talented twins, Ashley and Jamie, from Minneapolis. I knew chatting with them over Facebook for the past few months, that we would hit it off. They are incredibly down to earth, sweet, genuine people and I have great memories with all of my roommates. I left feeling very inspired from my experiences there and it is great to feel energized and ready to push myself creatively this year.

Thank you to all who organized this field trip, Whitney ChamberlinJustin LyonGuillaume WolfJessica Cudzilo and anyone else I’m missing. Thank you to all of the amazing teachers who took the time to share their experiences and techniques. I am truly grateful!
